                        Chapter 8 - Main Menu Functions

The following is a description of each of the main menu
functions:

8.1   The CONTROLLER menu

* CONNECT - Will display the controller selection screen,
  and allow a controller to be selected to connect with.
  See chapter 3 for more information.

* DISCONNECT - Will disconnect from the current controller.
  If The Monitor II is not currently connected with a
  controller, this function will do nothing. See chapter 3
  for more information.

* BACKUP - Will read all programs and data from the current
  controller and save it to disk. See chapter 5 for more
  information.

* RELOAD - Will load controller programs and data from a
  disk file, into the current controller. See chapter 5 for
  more information.

8.2   The VIEW Menu

* GRAPHIC SCREEN - Will display the graphic selection
  screen and allow a graphic screen to be selected for
  display. See chapter 4 for more information.

* CURRENT HISTORY - Will immediately read history data from
  the current conrtoller and display a line chart. See
  chapter 7 for more information.

* STORED HISTORY - Will read history data stored on disk,
  starting with the most recent, and display a line chart.
  See chapter 7 for more information.

* SCHEDULE - Will display the schedule selection screen and
  allow a schedule to be viewed. If the current users
  password level permits it, they will be able to modify
  the schedule also. See chapter 9 for more information.

* ALARM REPORT - Will display the alarm report for the
  current controller. See chapter 6 for more information.

* MAINTENANCE REPORT - Will display the maintenance report
  for the current controller. See chapter 6 for more
  details.

8.3   The SYSTEM Menu

* TERMINAL MODE - Will execute the terminal program
  specified in GENERAL SETUP. If the default of MONTERM is
  specified, the internal VT220 terminal program will be
  executed. The following functions are available:

* <Alt>-T - Transmit a disk file to the controller.

* <Alt>-C - Capture data from the controller into a
  file.

* <Alt>-H - Display a help screen showing Infinity
  keystrokes.

* <Alt>-P - Toggle the system printer. When using the
  window mode of the Infinity, the printer should not
  be turned on because the codes transmitted by the
  Infinity will cause garbage to be printed on your
  printer.

* <Alt>-X - Exit terminal mode and return to the main
  menu.

* TEXT EDITOR - Will execute the text editor program
  specified in GENERAL SETUP. The default is 'EDLIN',
  included in DOS. The program 'EDIT' that is included in
  DOS 5.0 is too large and will not work with The Monitor
  II.

* CUSTOM MENU - Will display the custom menu and allow the
  user to select a function to execute. The functions are
  user-written script files. See chapter 2 for more
  information.

* SETUP - Will display a SETUP sub-menu. See chapter 2 for
  more information. The functions in the sub-menu are:

  * USERS - Add, edit and delete users.

  * PRINTERS - Specify printer type, and printer ports.

  * COMMUNICATIONS - Specify default baud rates, COMM
    ports, etc.

  * AUTO PROCESSING - Add, edit and delete auto
    processes.

  * CUSTOM MENU - Add, edit and delete custom menu
    entries.

  * GENERAL - Specify terminal program, editor program,
    screen blanking interval, etc.

  * ALARMS - Specify alarm enable/disable and polling
    enable/disable.

  * HISTORIES - Setup history graphing. (see chapter 7)

* BUILD/EDIT - Will display a BUILD/EDIT sub-menu. The
  functions in the sub-menu are:

  * BUILD GRAPHIC - Allows building of graphic screens.
    See chapter 4 for more information.

  * EDIT GRAPHIC DATABASE - Add, edit and delete entries
    from the graphic database. See chapter 4 for more
    information.

  * BUILD SCHEDULE - Allows building of schedules. See
    chapter 9 for more information.

  * EDIT SCHEDULE DATABASE - Add, edit and delete
    entries from the schedule database. See chapter 9
    for more information.

  * EDIT CONTROLLER DATABASE - Add, edit and delete
    entries from the controller database. See chapter 3
    for more details.

* EXECUTE SCRIPT - Will display a scroll list of all of the
  script files that are in the \MONITOR\SCR directory and
  allow the user to select one for execution. See chapter 9
  for more information.

* OFFLINE EDITING - Works just like CONNECT, but will not
  actually connect. This is useful for building graphics,
  etc. without actually connecting. See chapter 3 for more
  information.

* DOS SHELL - Here the user may specify a DOS command to
  execute (FORMAT, DIR, etc.). If the user does not type a
  command and just presses [Enter], The Monitor II will
  perform a temporary exit to DOS. The user must then type
  'EXIT' and press [Enter] to return to The Monitor II.

8.4   The QUIT Menu

* LOGOUT - Will log the current user out of The Monitor II
  and return to the opening screen. If The Monitor II is
  currently connected with a controller, the user will be
  asked if they want to disconnect before logging out.

* EXIT TO DOS - Will quit The Monitor II and return to DOS.
  If The Monitor II is currently connected with a
  controller, the user will be asked if they want to
  disconnect before logging out.
